It is taken internally in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, neuroses, hyperactivity in children, dry coughs, whooping cough, rheumatic pain etc.
White willow bark has been used for centuries to ease pain, swelling and inflammation and reduce fevers. Modern aspirin was derived from salicin, a compound found in white willow bark. It can take longer to kick in than aspirin, but it has fewer side effects and does not thin the blood or cause digestive tract problems.
